Position: Associate Professor for Steelmaking and head of a steel cleanness and casting research group in Department for Metallurgy, Montanuniversität Leoben, Austria.
Specialization: thermodynamic modelling of processes, thermodynamics of multicomponent systems, defect prediction in casting processes and high-temperature oxidation of steel
At the METAL´23 conference Assoc. Prof. Christian Bernhard will present the plenary lecture: Continuous Casting of Steel: Latest achievements and future challenges for research.
Proffesional background:
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berhnard received his PhD from Montanuniversitaet Leoben in 1998. He started the development of the “Continuous Casting” working group. He was head of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for "Metallurgical Foundations of Continuous Casting" from 2002 to 2009.
Scientific and research activity:
Assoc. Prof. Bernhard is an Associate Professor for Steelmaking and head of a steel cleanness and casting research group since 2008.
Today he focuses on the thermodynamic modelling of processes, thermodynamics of multicomponent systems, defect prediction in casting processes and high-temperature oxidation of steel.
Assoc. Prof. Bernhard is a key researcher in many research projects within the framework of the K2-center “MPPE” at the Materials Center Leoben and the metallurgical competence center “K1-MET”. He is also a supervisor and reviewer for more than 30 PhDs in Austria and other countries and the head of the academic committee for the study program “Metallurgy and Metal Recycling”.
