Position: Dean of the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling, Technical University of Košice and Head of the scientific team at the Institute of Materials Research, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Košice, Slovakia.

Specialization: Materials research and development. Preparation and characterization of biodegradable materials, thermoelectric materials, materials for Li-ion batteries, and metallic alloys for hydrogen storage and their implementation in practice.


At the METAL´23 conference Assoc. Prof. Karel Saksl will present the invited lecture " Influence of Deformation of High-Entropy Alloys on Hydrogen Absorption" in Session C.


Education and professional background:
Assoc. Prof. Karel Saksl graduated in 1997 at the Technical University of Košice, where he also received his PhD. and DrSc. degree. He is the official representative of Slovakia in the European XFEL Council since 2010.

He has participated in many EU scientific projects, APVV projects, International M-Era.Net projects and VEGA projects.

He has been an MSc/PhD consultant since 2007 and a PhD supervisor since 2008. Since 2006 he has been a lecturer of Methods of structural analysis at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Slovakia.


Professional activities:

2014 - 2020 official representative of Slovakia in the user consortia Serial Femtosecond Crystallography and the XFEL Biology Infrastructure.
2009 - 2013 member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the European XFEL.
2009 - current member and scientific secretary of the Commission for the Coordination of Activities of the Slovak Republic in the ESFRI projects
2012-2016 Member of the VEGA Commission No. 7 for Mechanical engineering, information and communication technologies and materials science.
2008, 2009, 2010 Honorable acknowledgement in the award Scientist of the Year of the Slovak Republic

He is author of 139 publications and 2 university textbooks. His H-index is 24 (google scholar).
